On Cars

Being one of those message board hoppers that medic one disdains, I just got back from nemsa land and had some thoughts. It seems some nemsites are declaring Jihad. Since I don't comprehend religous frenzy, I started reflecting on this voting history in a more all american way, which of course centers around cars and car dealerships.

When the nemsa mobile was shown to me, I was very impressed with the thought of getting a good deal on a car, that though used, was purported to be like new. It was a great deal, the seller told me, sure to have no problems. As I went around to my friends talking about the deal being offered, and that there was room for all of us to take a grand road trip, a person who had been dealing with car purchases a lot longer then me told me I better take it to a diagnostic shop first, and maybe ask the seller if I could have the car for a day or two to drive.

So, I followed this sound advice, having heard of people being sold lemons with no recourse, and its a good thing I did.  At first I just noticed little noises, then some rust spots and wear and tear I didn't see initially. When I brought it to the diagnostic shop, they pointed out quite a few problems: the timing belt, the spark plugs weren't firing right, all the filters were clogged, and there was a deadly exhaust leak. It would cost more money to investigate further as there was no maintenance record.

Luckily, I found a mechanic who was able to rebuild my current car, its running like new, and I know its history.
