Although NEMSA has raised objections to the election with the NLRB, it could literally take YEARS for a resolution given the NLRB's track history in resolving past objections. NEMSA could eventually win its objection but IAEP has the service agreement now and it won the election. IAEP is the only game in town.
2. Bylaws.
A committee is being formed. We can choose the committee members by lottery, gathering signatures, vounteers, using current shop stewards or a combination of these. Does anybody else have any ideas? It's up to us. . I recommended using current shop stewards because of their experience and to ensure that NEMSA supporters be included in the writing of the bylaws. A 60 day timeline is in place for them to get written for ratification by the members.
3. Shop Stewards.
The current shop stewards stay in place if they desire to until we select new ones (yes John Greene, you are still a shop steward). The selection process for new shop stewards (or the old ones....) will be in the bylaws.
4. Dues.
They will be $8.20 a week for full timers and implemented as soon as administratively possible. The money goes to 250 but they will dispurse it to SEIU/IAEP and our local and not keep a dime for themselves.
5. The Service Agreement
It's in place and IEAP is honoring it. Mark Pinkas is our temporary representative/liason of sorts to help manage the transistion to IAEP until we get our permanent 4 reps. and executive board set up. And he has other IEAP and 250 people to help him. If you havn't met him, he's a very experienced medic and union rep. He knows his stuff.
6. Let's move on. I know there are diehard partisans out there still campaigning their positions (Alis), but the election is over. The CBA is up in two years, RFPs are pending, greivances are pending. We have bylaws to write and leadership to select. We are moving on. Join the ride and speak up. All of the NEMSA supporters have an opportunity now to get their ideas written into the bylaws and are openly invited to participate in the decision making process
