Sorry, that didn't paste like it was supposed to. If you have any questions, just call me or email me.

I'll re-post it in the morning. I'm too tired to do it tonight.

So does this mean that San Mateo is going to switch from NEMSA to IAEP?

The majority of San Mateo County as well as myself are pro-NEMSA and will remain that way.  However, it is unwise to stand idly by and not participate in union activities that may hurt or benefit the Collective Bargaining Unit simply because those who we support did not reign victorious.  What serves the best interests of my coworkers will always take precedence long before my loyalties to any union.  I would hope that Local 250 supporters would take the same position if the vote had resulted in a victory for NEMSA.

Well said Ian. While we were opposite sides of the whole IAEP/NEMSA issue, I will look forward to working with you and hopefully many other NEMSA supporters in developing our new by-laws.

I think that Forfend might be asking more about if san mateo is going to change its representation from NEMSA to IAEP/L250. Many people are still probably confused about the whole deal with the medics being represented differently from the EMTS and the reasons why. Ill let you Ian explain since you know the details much better then me! Pretty thats what forfend was asking about, but you never know!

Also, what does it mean exactly to remain pro-nemsa? Does this ever end in any scenario?

Sorry if I was not very clear in my previous post in the attempt to answer Forfend’s question.  Thus far the San Mateo County Paramedics are very happy with NEMSA and the fulfillment of their promises.  They have no intentions of leaving NEMSA to join IAEP.  In addition, the San Mateo County Paramedics do not agree with how IAEP came to be where they are today.  Local 250 did not offer to subcontract with IAEP untill after they lost the vote in San Mateo County.  This only amplified any contempt they already had for Local 250 and substantiated the decision they had made towards NEMSA.  The bottom line is that the medics will never go to Local 250 / IAEP no matter what promises are made.

What it means to be pro-NEMSA from the BLS perspective is that although we are currently members of Local 250 / IAEP we still feel NEMSA would serve us better.   At this time if another vote was to take place we would once again vote in support of NEMSA.  Local 250 / IAEP have alot of promises to fufill and only time will weed out the truth from the propaganda.  If the BLS Division in my county decides to change this scenario over time, who knows?  In the meantime progress must be made and bridges need to be built.  I hope this helped to answer some of your questions.

So how is it going with an active NEMSA unit?

Are you up and running with Bylaws, financial reports of your dues, labor management relations, protecting working conditions and employees?  You know....the stuff that we in 250 were worried about losing.

That would be the best selling point for NEMSA.  Expose the trade secrets.  WOOOOO!  Can you do that yet?

I still have yet to be convinced of one thing we can't do with IAEP that we could only do with NEMSA. Does anybody have anything to share about this?

NEMSA would be wise to start to share their "private info" like their by-laws and business plan.  If NEMSA is going to back here next year, the way that duckhunter says, then full disclosure is in order if they want success.  The big hesitation most people had was the secrecy of the basic structure of the organization.

The by-laws are up and running as anticipated. As of yet I have not discussed the financial reports with the paramedics but I have heard of no complaints on their part. It is my understanding that NEMSA is legally obligated to disclose all financial statements with the membership so I doubt that this is an issue.  In addition, their union dues is unchanged as promised along with grievance and arbitration being fully inforced.  As for the contract, benefits and working conditions the only thing that changed was the cover of the contract and that the Paramedics received better benefits for less money with Kaiser being the only acceptation.  We get shafted on Kaiser regardless of what union we are members of.  Me being one of those lucky individuals.  Oh well....

I think if the paramedics had any issues with NEMSA thus far they would have already established an active dialogue with Local 250 / IAEP.  The Paramedics were very impressed with how quickly the transition was.  I think that it is safe to say everything is going really well for them.  I have not discussed this on this forum because we are not members of NEMSA and I would be beating a dead dog if I did.  Better to deal with the hear and now within the Collective Bargaining Unit then ponder what could have been.  If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Could you get one of your medics on here to share with us the workings of NEMSA?

I wish only the best to the medics in San Mateo County.  I hope NEMSA keeps their end of the bargain, and constantly provides steady, competent representation that is to the employees satisfaction.  I chose to not take my chance with a new union, I have to see results first; thats just my personal opinion.  Many NEMSA supporters have come over here and said some stupid things that havent helped their cause, and that is unfortunate for NEMSA if they end up being a solid union that happens to have a black cloud over its head.  Hopefully NEMSA will work out well for those counties that voted in NEMSA, and that IAEP will work out well for those that voted in IAEP.

Has there been any communication regarding a NEMSA active member from San Mateo County that is going to share with us what it is like being an active member of NEMSA?
