It is good to expose corruption and punish the guilty. Accountability is job one for union members. Is NLPC sponsored by anti-union interests? What is the agenda of NLPC? Why is NEMSA contiually citing anti-union rhetoric? Is NEMSA so assurred it will never have to hold a leader accountable for illegal, unethical or corrupt activity?
I am trying to direct your attention to the fact that this is a true real life issue. If you're being FORCED into a union that is getting MY MONEY.You better make sure that it doen't disappear. There are no guarantees for anything, but at least you can keep close watch on who receives the funds. In my book, unions with a HISTORY of embezzlement do not deserve MY MONEY.
Embezzlement and misappropriation of funds are usually the fault of an individual committing a crime to get gain. Often the treasurer will be punished for not catching the criminal activity. A standard practice for these types of incidents go to trusteeship for a period of time to have a neutral third party insure there are no hidden crimes in the ledger. Very serious issue that requires strict accountability. It happens to organizations of all sizes, types and years of operation. At least with a union, the members have the ability to use a legitimate legislative process to form their by-laws to have oversight into the fiscal affairs of their organization.
Nemsa has a clean record we can all work together and keep it that way. Can't really get any worse than SEIU. Why not give it a shot? worse comes to worse, next year we can decert Nemsa and switch again, without losing representation as required by AFL-CIO...
NEMSA has some history, but it is not documented for us to see yet. Am I to be part of NEMSA's history ("no difference between an association and a union" T.C. ) in the long line of union corruption history?
